Dad's Life Story

Created by Sashamonk 10 years ago
Dad was born in Cardiff on 17th November 1933 to Cecil and Rosaline. When he was 7 he went to live in Aberdare with his Aunty May where he enjoyed roaming around the mountains and developed his love of cycling. He returned to Cardiff at the age of 14 and upon leaving school he worked with his Father on the floors and became a Master Carpenter and Craftsman. He also joined the Ajax Cycling Club and became a Champion cyclist, building his own bikes and even setting a record for cycling from Pontypridd to Cardiff on the old roads, which no longer exist, so the record can never be broken. Always a very strong swimmer, he then took up surfing. He first saw Mum and a 2 year old Mark on the beach in Lavernock in the Summer of 1968 when they used to pet his Alsatian Karl, but he never actually met her until late 1968 in Bakers Row. Their first dance was to "Where Do You Go To My Lovely". They started courting and became soulmates. Mum was the love of his life and Dad was the love of hers. In 1972, they had a Daughter, Sasha. They got married in 1976 and in 1977, his Son Stacy was born. Whereby their family was complete. As a family they often visited the beach where Dad carried on his love of surfing and tried on numerous occasions to teach Mum how to surf but to no avail as she kept falling off! So Mum would stay on the beach with the kids while Dad enjoyed his surfing and swimming. For many years he worked for GKN and British Steel and following redundancy became a self employed Master Carpenter, Craftsman and Builder. There wasn't anything he couldn't do and do well! He continued working until he was almost 80! He was very proud to walk his Daughter down the aisle in 2005 when she married his Son-in-Law Lee. He had 4 Grandchildren, Jerome, Gabriel, Chase and Chloe Rose whom he loved dearly and was very proud when Jerome joined the British Army at the age of 16. In later years Dad always said he would be happy to reach his milestone 80th Birthday which he did. He also wanted to see his Grandson get married, which he achieved in January this year when Jerome married Gemma. He was an avid birdwatcher who always ensured the birds in his garden were always well fed and watered. A good man who led a good life, always putting others first and whom will be greatly missed by all of us.
